Surrender and retention guidelines available for schools

The Ministry of Education has today published guidelines to help schools correctly interpret new powers for the surrender and retention of student property. 

Principals say guidelines will lead to more police calls

New guidelines on schools' legal limits when searching students for drugs and weapons, which were published yesterday, clarify their powers in light of law changes made in the Education Act last year, and school principals say they will be more likely to call the police.
